Privacy Policy
The short version
Spinception is a single-player game that is fully playable offline. Your gameplay saves stay on your device. There are no accounts, in-game advertisements, or real-money prizes. The Android version does not include analytics. The iOS version with Firebase integration sends app usage and installation information to Google Analytics for Firebase to help us understand app use and measure campaigns promoting the game. Analytics starts automatically. We disable collection of Apple's advertising identifier and vendor identifier, and disable personalized advertising.
Who we are
Spinception is made and published by Groundmass LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what happens to information when you play the game or visit groundmass.net/spinception. Questions go to aaron@groundmass.net.
Information the game collects
Android: no analytics SDK or gameplay telemetry is included. Store billing and review services operate as described below.
iOS: versions that include Google Analytics for Firebase collect:
- Installation identifiers: an app-instance identifier that lets Firebase recognize activity from the same installation over time.
- App interactions: first opens, sessions, and engagement, together with timestamps, app and operating-system versions, and device information.
- Approximate location: general location, such as country or city, derived from a masked IP address. This does not use GPS or request location permission.
Analytics activity is associated with the app-instance identifier. This lets Google group events from the same installation, even though we do not ask for your name, email, or a player account. The identifier is pseudonymous: it labels an installation, and does not make the associated activity anonymous.
We use this information for usage reports and measurement of advertising promoting Spinception. We do not send your saved games, contacts, photos, email address, Apple advertising identifier (IDFA), or vendor identifier (IDFV). There is no sign-in, cloud save, chat, or Crashlytics integration. Information the game stores on your device
So that your progress survives closing the app, the game writes save files to its own private storage area on your device. They contain only gameplay state:
- Run progress — the current run's board, deck, score, stage, and inventory
- Meta progress — stars, unlocked boards, decks, symbols, trinkets and items, difficulty reached, quest and daily-quest progress, collection and statistics
- Settings — audio volumes, haptics, language, tutorial-tip preference
- On Android only, a cached flag recording whether the Full version has been unlocked on this device
This data never leaves your device. We cannot see it, and it is not backed up to any server of ours. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its stored data in your device's settings, permanently deletes all of it.
Purchases
On Android (Google Play), Spinception is free to download. It offers a single optional one-time in-app purchase — the Full version unlock — and no other purchases of any kind. That transaction is handled entirely by Google Play Billing. We never receive or have access to your payment method, card number, billing address, or name. All the app learns from Google Play is whether an unlock purchase exists for the account signed in on the device; it stores that yes/no answer locally so the Full version keeps working offline. Google's handling of the transaction is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
On iOS (App Store), Spinception is paid for once, up front, when you download it. The App Store version is the complete game: it contains no in-app purchases, no unlock, and no subscriptions, and the app never queries the store about purchases or receipts. Your payment is handled entirely by Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy; we never see your payment details.
Permissions the app requests
Android:
- Vibrate — haptic feedback on spins and scoring. You can turn it off in the game's settings.
- Internet and view network connections — required by Google's Play Billing and Play In-App Review libraries so a purchase can be verified and restored. The game itself makes no other network requests: no content is downloaded, and nothing is uploaded.
iOS: the current app does not request camera, microphone, location, photos, contacts, notification, Bluetooth, local network, or App Tracking Transparency permissions. Firebase is configured without IDFA or IDFV collection and with personalized advertising disabled. Haptic feedback uses the device's built-in engine, which needs no permission, and can be turned off in the game's settings. Firebase Analytics sends the information described above over the internet when a connection is available. Analytics starts automatically without a permission dialog or an in-game consent choice.
Information the app stores collect independently
Because the game is distributed through the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, Google and Apple may collect information about installs, purchases, and crashes under their own policies, and may show us aggregated, anonymous statistics in the Play Console and in App Store Connect (for example install counts by country, or a crash stack trace with no identifying information). On iOS, Apple's analytics and crash sharing are governed by the "Share with App Developers" setting on your device. We do not receive individual user identities from either store, and we do not combine any of it with other data.
This website
These pages are static files. They set no cookies, run no analytics, embed no tracking pixels, and load no third-party fonts, scripts, or frames — every asset is served from this site. Our web host keeps standard server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested file, user agent) for security and operational purposes; we do not use them to build profiles or identify visitors.
Advertising, sharing, and sale of data
Spinception contains no in-game advertising. We promote the game through external advertising campaigns. Google processes the iOS analytics information described above to provide usage reports. When we link Google Analytics to our Google Ads account, analytics data is shared with Google Ads to measure and improve campaigns promoting Spinception, subject to the applicable consent settings. This includes using the first-open event to measure an installation that was opened; it is not a record of your App Store payment.
The app disables personalized advertising use of its analytics data. It also applies Google's regional default for advertising user-data consent, which denies that use in regions covered by Google's EU user consent policy. This restriction does not turn off analytics collection. We do not sell player information.
Audience and children
Spinception is not directed at children. Play is for entertainment only: nothing in the game is played for real money, and there is no opportunity to win money or anything of real-world value.
Your rights and choices
You may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal information under applicable privacy laws. Contact aaron@groundmass.net with a request or question. We do not have player accounts or names associated with analytics installations, which may limit our ability to identify a particular record.
Uninstalling removes the app's local saves and stops future collection from that installation. It does not itself delete analytics information already processed by Google. The iOS integration starts analytics automatically and currently has no in-game analytics toggle.
Data retention and security
Gameplay saves remain in the app's private storage, protected by the operating system. Analytics information is processed on Google's infrastructure under the retention settings for our Google Analytics property and Google's applicable service terms. Aggregated reports may be retained separately from individual event data. Contact us for information about retention or deletion of analytics data.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's store listing. Where consent is required for a change in data use, a policy update alone does not provide that consent.
