Who we are

Glitter Jar is made and published by Groundmass LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what happens to information when you use the app or visit groundmass.net/glitterjar. Questions go to groundmassllc@gmail.com.

Information the app collects

None. Glitter Jar does not ask for, gather, or send us your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, photos, files, advertising ID, device identifiers, or any other personal or device information. There is no sign-in, no cloud save, no leaderboard, no chat, and no crash-reporting or analytics SDK in the app. We operate no servers that could receive any of it.

Information the app stores on your device

So that your jar looks the way you left it, the app writes a save file to its own private storage area. It contains only:

Nothing is ever sent to us. Deleting the app — or, on Android, clearing its storage in Settings — permanently deletes all of it.

Backups

Android backs up app data on its own, and Glitter Jar is included — so a copy of your jar can be kept in your Google account, the same way most apps on your phone are. This is something Android does, not something Glitter Jar sends: the app has no upload code and no server to upload to. We never see the backup and have no way to reach it.

iPhone and iPad work the same way: an iCloud or computer backup of your device can include the app's data, held in your Apple account and out of our reach.

It is why your collection can reappear when you reinstall the app or set up a new phone. If you would rather it did not happen, both systems let you turn backups off, entirely or app by app — on Android under Settings, Google, then Backup; on iPhone and iPad under Settings, your name, then iCloud.

Device motion (shake)

The app reads your device's motion sensor solely to notice when you shake or tilt the phone, so it can stir the glitter and aim gravity. This happens on your device, in the moment, and is never recorded, stored, or sent anywhere. Android does not classify the motion sensor as a permission- protected sensor, so the app reads it without asking you for anything.

Sound

The app can play a gentle background track, which you can switch off in settings. The music file ships inside the app itself — nothing is streamed, and the app never listens to your microphone.

Permissions, ads and third parties

Glitter Jar asks for no access to your camera, microphone, photos, contacts, files or location, and it contains no advertising and no tracking or analytics software of any kind.

It does include one component from the platform itself: the store's billing library — Google Play Billing on Android, StoreKit on iOS — which exists solely to run the optional tip jar. On Android that means the app now declares the billing permission and can reach Google's servers, where earlier versions requested nothing at all. That is the only network activity the app has; we run no servers of our own for it to talk to.

The tip jar

The app is free and complete, with no advertising and no subscription. Nothing in it is locked behind a payment: every charm and every color unlocks by using the app, and always will.

Tucked in the settings menu there is an optional tip jar — three small one-off amounts, for anyone who feels like saying thank you to the person who made the app. Leaving a tip drops a keepsake coin charm into your jar. It unlocks nothing and changes nothing else.

We never see your payment details. The entire transaction is carried out by Google Play or the App Store under their own privacy policies: they take the payment, they are the merchant of record, and all the app is told in return is that a purchase succeeded. Your name, email address, card details and billing address are never sent to us, and we could not retrieve them if we tried. The only thing the app keeps is the local count and keepsake coins described above, which stay on your device.

Tips are one-off. There is no subscription, nothing recurring, and no reminder to tip again.

Information Google and Apple collect independently

Because the app is distributed through the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, Google and Apple may collect information about installs, crashes and purchases under their own policies, and may show us aggregated statistics in their developer consoles (for example install counts by country, a crash stack trace with no identifying information, or the number of tips left in a month). We do not receive individual user identities from either of them, and we do not combine any of it with other data.

This website

These pages are static files. They set no cookies, run no analytics, embed no tracking pixels, and load no third-party fonts, scripts, or frames — every asset is served from this site. Our web host keeps standard server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested file, user agent) for security and operational purposes; we do not use them to build profiles or identify visitors.

Advertising, sharing, and sale of data

Glitter Jar contains no advertising of any kind. We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with anyone, for any purpose, including for cross-context behavioral advertising — because we do not collect it in the first place.

Children

Glitter Jar is suitable for everyone, including children. Because it collects no data at all, it does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age. It is a relaxation toy, not a medical device, and makes no therapeutic claims.

Nothing in the app is locked behind a payment, so a child can use every part of it without ever encountering a purchase. The optional tip jar lives in the settings menu and, like any in-app purchase, is covered by the parental controls built into Google Play and iOS — Family Link and Play's purchase-approval setting on Android, Screen Time and Ask to Buy on iPhone and iPad.

Your rights and choices

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA/CPRA give you rights to access, correct, delete, or port the personal data a company holds about you. We hold no personal data about you, so in practice there is nothing for us to hand over or erase. You remain in full control of the on-device save data described above: clear the app's storage or uninstall the app to delete it. If you believe we hold information about you, write to groundmassllc@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Data retention and security

We operate no servers, databases, or backups holding user information, so there is nothing for us to retain or lose in a breach. Save files stay in the app's private storage, protected by the app-sandboxing built into Android and iOS.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's store listing.
